Nothing beats coming home after work and soaking in a warm tub after a stressful, busy day or week. If your day-to-day is a bit chaotic, it is extremely important to incorporate relaxation or meditation into your lifestyle. 

According to Florida Dermatology and Skin Cancer Centers, “your body responds to changes in your psychological state; conditions like stress, depression, and anxiety can cause new skin issues to develop or existing skin issues to flare up. When you feel stressed, your sympathetic nervous system releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline into your body. Cortisol causes increased oil production in your skin glands, which can lead to clogged pores and acne breakouts. Chronic stress leads to constant increased levels of these hormones and can have a negative effect on your skin health.”


Finding healthy ways to cope with stress like creating an at-home spa to unwind, can help with the mind, heart and body. Incorporating some meditation can be very beneficial – the relaxation response helps decrease metabolism, lowers blood pressure, and improves heart rate, breathing and brain waves. These tips will transform your bathroom and make everyday a spa day.


Dim your lights or light some candles

You can do one or the other, or both! Don’t underestimate the importance of lighting, it will immediately enhance your mood! Incorporating candles will give you the relaxing, soft lighting along with the aromatherapy. Smell is a very important part of feeling internally calm. 

Spa music

Whenever I need to listen to relaxing music, I just go into Shopify and type in “spa music” or “relaxing music”, and it instantly makes me feel relaxed!.


Relax in a warm tub

Hot water is soothing, but make sure not to make it too hot! Hot water can damage the skin and dry it out causing it to be itchy and irritated. Amplify your bath with a bath bomb or bath salts, whichever you prefer. 


Put on a masque

My facials in a box are the perfect addition to your at-home spa day. Whichever box you chose from, you get a targeted masque for your certain skin concerns. As well as some serums and moisturizer to end your facial with! These products will leave your skin glowing and feeling it’s best. 


Use a body scrub

Don’t neglect your body! We tend to forget about the skin on the rest of our body, but it needs some TLC too. My favorite body scrub is from GlyMed, the Alpha Therapeutic Ultimate Body Scrub. This exfoliating scrub has 10% glycolic acid, 10% lactic acid, a tingling blend of natural essential oils and botanicals. It’s perfect for dry and rough skin around the elbows, legs, knees and feet.


Buy a bathroom caddy

This simple addition will give you some serious spa vibes. Prop up a book on it, watch your favorite movie, or use it to set up your glass (or bottle!) of champagne.


Warm up your towels

If you don’t want to splurge on a towel warmer, my favorite substitute is to put my towels in the dryer and so they’re nice and warm and cozy getting out of the bath! Luckily my laundry room is a part of my bathroom so I have quick access to the towels, otherwise I would definitely splurge on a towel warmer just to get this final touch to my at-home spa days.

There’s no doubt you will go to bed feeling so relaxed and wake up the next day feeling brand new. Pampering and caring for yourself is essential and should be a part of everyone’s weekly routine!
